“Week seven and the rankings dissolve — a kid named Kim gets thirty days in the majors, Tyler Ulrich doesn't get to see week eight, and somewhere in San Antonio a service member falls at kickoff.”
4 sources: cnn.com, kens5.com, nbcdfw.com, nbcnews.com. The references broadly match October 2026 reports: five of the AP poll’s top seven college teams lost in Week 7; Dodgers infielder Hyeseong Kim said he spent only about a month in the majors; and Southern Nazarene safety Tyler Ulrich died five days after an in-game injury. An Air Force service member also fell during a pregame rappel at San Antonio’s Alamodome and later died; the incident occurred before kickoff, not at kickoff.
